Version V STi dream

Gday guys and girls.
I have a huge dilemma, and its driving me crazy.
in 1998 i was 16 years old, and when the version V Sti came out, i always wanted one. I am in love with the car. Problem was, I was 16. And didn't have $69,000 for one.
Now, coming upto 15 years later, I own a Holden Cruze CDX. Not the most exciting car in the world. But a reliable, cheap good looking car, with leather seats, heated seats, satnav ect.

Now... here is the issue. I dont want to have any regrets and I feel if i never own one of these cars I will kick myself in years to come.
Now I cannot make up my mind if i want to trade in a brand new car, for a 15 year old car, that I love.

Please guys, can you give me pro's and con's of selling a brand new car for a 15 year old car..... and if what would you do in my position

reconus 22-02-2013 06:28 PM

That depends on the v5sti you want.

Brand new cars will give you all that warranty and peace of mind that hte motor wont blow because it hasnt been modded or been around more than jenna jameson.

If i were 35 and hadn't already had what i wanted, i'd get rid of the cruze and buy what i want.

Just do your research first, get the car you want checked by STechnic and if you're happy with the results, buy the thing.

I've been aching to get a v5sti aswell.. and I'm torn between a holiday visa in canada or buying a v5 sti and sticking around....

Saint_23 22-02-2013 06:39 PM

Drive one, then make your decision.

If you can do it keep the Cruze AND get the V5.
The first issue will be finding one. Dont see them for sale here in WA often.
You may have to look over east.

If you find a good condition one with good servicing history the reliability wont necessarily be an issue,
and there are some great Subaru specialists here in Perth that will keep you on the road.

Obviously you have to do without some benefits like your heated leather seats and decent fuel economy.
But the driving sensation will more than make up for that.

Replacement tyres will probably be more expensive, and if you choose to go down the modification path
then be prepared to keep spending.

Drive one and you will probably find that the decision will be easy.

You own a Cruze?

Pm pigsti, you guys can be soul mates

I love them, but cant justify it, considering you can get a newer sti for the same price

reconus 22-02-2013 07:16 PM

Yeah but shanes is 26k.. with all the goodies that you'd want.

Looks like pacecar that was crashed. Must have repaired it and flogged or off

GX-REX 22-02-2013 11:07 PM

Was [PACE CAR] polarbears car or are there numerous black 2 doors in Perth?

I dont want to say yes, but yes

Brand new plates indicate pace car was just swapped out for wa ones.

jEstEr? 25-02-2013 03:57 PM

well polar's car was a close door spray job that looked horrible, the strut towers in that photo look like a flat black paint. so unless the entire engine bay as resprayed in a factory looking colour?

VUSSUTE 27-02-2013 06:30 PM

im looking for a close to stock sti.
I dont want ex raced, dragged, drifted ect. I know thats going to be hard to find.
Not interested in modding it, the way the laws are now, makes it impossible, more truthfully, too expensive to modify.

Happy just to keep it stock and enjoy it

Paint pen on the grill and headlight plus the rad support being gloss compared to the rest of the bay.....hmm

Master D 27-02-2013 11:03 PM

To be honest, a V5 was great in its day but newer example STi's are worth considering. Unless you're hell bent on the 2 door.

Let's face it, most wrx's getting around that age bracket have had a hard life ( ie: driven like they are designed to be) but as long as it has a full service history and looks straight enough, you'll be happy either day.

You'll need to keep an eye out on Carsales for a car over east if that's the case. Rarely will you find one in W.A.. though, you did recently miss out on a white one for 19k. might find it driving around the morley area.. with the clear crappy rear tail lights.

STI325V6 27-02-2013 11:13 PM

Are you set on the V5, what about the V6.....

VUSSUTE 02-03-2013 10:29 AM

5 or 6 I love but if I can I would rather a 5

VUSSUTE 06-03-2013 06:21 PM

Well going to have a look at a tidy version 6 this weekend. So hopefully shes in good nick.
Just wondering. What brakes came standard on Verison 6 Sti?

VUSSUTE 06-03-2013 06:35 PM

also, as im new to turbocharged cars. I would like to do some very mild mods. (not interested in a drag car ect)
Where would the recommended place to go just to get full exhaust, filter and tune? and what kind of prices you looking at for that.

You can also scout around and get your parts elsewhere.

Guy at my work has an unmolested V5 in white that he was thinking about selling when his 1M was on its way. Can see if he's keen to sell?

The Km's are bullshit, I sold it over 6 years ago with close to, if not more Km's than that!

I treated it well, as I do all my cars. I did have a VF34 on it with a unichip, they were removed when I sold it.

Cheers

I have seen a pic of the dash cluster with 116,500 on it not 112.... but yeah i researched the car and saw you owned it, and saw that u said it had its 100k service. then he advertises it 6 yrs later with 116k on it. Thought it was odd.

ive attached the dash photo

VUSSUTE 06-03-2013 09:44 PM

STI325V6, it would be awesome if you can remember how many kms you sold it with. Then i could go... well mate, u see, blah blah blah

catch him red handed dodging something up.

Something else i also noticed is it had been re registered.

You sold it with plates MH 1532.
He has plates 1DOB399.

Im curious as to why it was deregistered.

May have gotten rid of the MH plates, got customised plates and didn't want to lose them when the car gets sold?

Tony 06-03-2013 10:01 PM

Personalised plates, kept them.
