Default Strut mounts

Hi All,

Since installing coilovers I've had problems starting to appear with the Strut mounts ( slight knocking at the mounts ), I was wondering if any of you all ever experienced anything like this?
Took it to the mechanic and after a comprehensive check over nothing was found wrong but the strut mounts, so it was suggested I get STI N type mounts.
Any other thoughts or should I just go for the N type mounts?

Had some fairly bad creaking noises that were found to come from the top hats on the coilovers that I had in the car, once upon a time.
Swapped over to OEM top hats and the noise was gone completely.

This is a dull knock mostly when in rough or mounting an uneven surface
Hoping the new mounts solve the problem
Oh and I'm still using the stock sti top mounts

What brand coilovers? Most cheap sets have some form of noise which is normal...although can get irritating if on a daily drive.

They are meant to be decent units. Who installed and tuned them? Have you left them in factory/preset tune or changed them?
I run KW V3's in my 09sti which also use the factory top mounts and they occasionally make a faint clunk when I run over cateye's at low speeds but not at higher speeds. I had them checked out and nothing was found, I put it down to the fact that they are a stiffly sprung unit and are unlikely to ever be as quiet as a factory strut.

Could also be the helper spring arrangement ie; more moving parts than factory struts and the spring seats are straight perpendicular edges rather than factory strut seats which have that curved cup like surface holding the spring more snugly.

It's set at 4 ( 0 being the stiffest 9 being the softest )
Let you know how it turns out when I get the new mounts in place
