Stamp Duty
Just wandring has anyone purchased a vehicle, whether it be new or used, interstate - brought it back to WA and been able to pay the stamp duty in the 'original' state, thus saving on stamp duty? If so, just wandering how to go bout this... I'm sure i've heard of people doing it, just not too sure on the process. Any info would be appreciated...

I believe that you pay in whatever state the transfer papers were raised in. The previous owner also sends a copy in.

Scoobysix. Where did you send your paperwork?
Should have only had to pay when you change your plates |

My basic understanding is that you are unable to pay stamp duty in another state unless you have that state's drivers license and also you have proof that you are living in that state, is there some way to get around this?

Looked into buying a wrx from over east when I was looking, rang WA licencing and sydney and melbourne centres to ask about this question. Unless you have a registered local address in that state, you cannot pay the stamp duty there. The WA licencing chick said they really don't care, but the eastern staters were really strong on it.....
Shame cause they pay WAYY less than us.. (but get shafted with RWC's, and having to put their cars over the pits regularly.... |
