Default What ECU??

my 2001 WRX unfortunately has had ECUTEK put on the ECU, theres like 1 place that I know of in Perth that can tune/diagnose cars with ECUTEK and they are wayyyy too expensive for my liking.

Im having rough running issues with my car and took it somewhere today and my car can't even be diagnosed cause it has that damn ECUTEK on it.Seems the Licence fees for this shit are so expensive that no one wants to know about it and I don't blame them!.

Im now looking at getting rid of my ECUTEK ecu and getting a standard ECU for now( still not found one) then later getting some other type of ECU software upgrade put onto it when I can afford to do so.

What are you guys running??

To my knowledge there are 3 tuners that deal in ECUTEK (In Perth) they are:

- Racetorque;
- Maximum Motor Sports; and
- EvolutionR.

Dependent on mods you're going to have to have a tune regardless of ECU.

Remapping stock ECU in perth 2013

-Ecutek
-Verso
-Evo R do a remap
-Open source and hope someone with a clue does not explode your car

By the time you buy another stock and ecu and pay to have it mapped... you can pay for the ECUTEK retune etc.

Im Running ECUTEK - no dramas the past couple of years, other than it runs a little rich, and occasional shoots flames/sets off car alarms haha

But yeah, my throttle body solenoid seems to cop all the crap and clog up, but that's not too much drama to clean.

What Dramas are you actually having? If you take it too one of the decent workshops around perth they might actually be able to help you out (might not even be the ecu - or maybe it is, but because something else is playing up

Curious, can you bypass the cost of having the original tuner deleting the tune from your ECU and having another company tune it for you 'whilst keeping ECUTEK on there'?

From what I understand, no. They are locked to the ECU - so the only way to reset it is to have the ECU unlocked. Which means you pay

EcuTek does not lock any of the diagnostics. A decent workshop should be able to read codes and values off the ecu no differently to any other WRX.
ECU tuning does not need periodic adjustment like a carburettor/distributor.
If it was once running well and now does not then something has failed or a part that affects the tune has been changed. Vacuum or boost leaks, spark plugs and coils, filters and injectors would be a good place to start. Borrow a good AFM and try it?

Unless time has changed you can get the ecutek dealer to reflash back to stock ROM
And the ecu is now free to be tinkered by whoever you wish

Also, evoR doesn't do ecutek, but open source tuning

At MMS we charge a hourly labor rate to review your codes.

For a re- tune of Ecutek the rate is as follows
$330.00 for the first hour
$220.00 per hour after the first hour, should there be further hours/ time / issues / parts. We would call you and explained the situation.
