New limited edition Rex with a supposedly $7000 of extras for $4500 over base.
Looks good tho $4500 better spent elsewhere?

BXT 28-08-2013 06:57 PM

Still trying to work out how they get $7000 for those added bits.....seats look noice though.

Must the pricey RS40 badges and decals.

MY00GC8 28-08-2013 07:02 PM

I would imagine the seats would be rather pricey, and remember with sti parts in aus you get 'sti tax' !

thehowlfactor 28-08-2013 07:04 PM

It does have the getting rid of the old stock before the new model arrives feel to it though.

ALLPAWS 08-03-2014 07:39 PM

Hehe, I just bloody bought one!

ALLPAWS 08-03-2014 09:40 PM

A few hoops to jump through yet but yeah got a good deal on an ex-demo.
Hard part will be keeping it stock (ish) while under warrantee.

RichX 08-03-2014 09:47 PM

Was this from Melville? Saw one there a few weeks ago. They were talking about old stock as the 2015 was coming so I'm sure you would have got a good deal.

Put up some pics & congrats!

Rex 08-03-2014 11:04 PM

The seats look awesome, make me want to swap some of those into my sti :/

Yeah, they feel as good as they look :) I was thinking of hanging on to try the MY15 wrx but it would be $10 000 more than the RS40. Current model STi's can be had at good deal as well. Gonna miss my Bugeye, its well set up and I have spent a lot on it in the last few years and all that coin is going down the gurgler :(

First mods will be full exhaust, tune, tint and thicker sway bars.

Then coil overs, ebc, cai and stereo head unit.

Wont change tyres, clutch, brakes etc until the original ones are shagged :)

munya 09-03-2014 10:38 AM

Good stuff on the purchase..

Yorkie 09-03-2014 03:27 PM

Jealous!!!

Dan [GTI] 09-03-2014 04:03 PM

Inb4 you swap PPG from bug into this.

ALLPAWS 10-03-2014 12:20 PM

Probably will do a big part out in three weeks
If not sold And return it to mostly stock for the trade in.

ALLPAWS 20-03-2014 09:00 PM

Its getting closer :) A few tasty parts will be for sale soon from the bugeye, sorry Dan, PPG box won't be one of them :)

matto20v 20-03-2014 09:25 PM

Got custom plates for the RS40?

Keeping 'ALLPAWS' - slang for AWD for the un-informed, lots of ppl think I'm a vet

I meant put the PPG BOX in the RS240 ;)

ALLPAWS 20-03-2014 11:06 PM

Sorry mate, I thought u were implying u wanted to buy them. They r a great piece of kit, add a subtle yet noticeable race-car like gearbox whine, feels like a stock transmission and can handle big horsepower that the standard 5 speed can struggle with. F&*king pricy tho . . .

Well..your display pic combined with the name wouldn't seem out of place for a vet clinic ;)

The sign wasn't a dead give away or anything. :P

Wish Peel Subaru did something fancy like that for me. They just had it under the patio, and handed me the keys. No bows or anything!

Well I was hoping for a bottle of bubbly really. . . My gf got one when she bought her brz from Melville Subaru.

Opps, missed that obviously. Looked at you, looked at the car, saw all the windows and that's it :o

RichX 02-04-2014 08:12 PM

Yeah we got a bottle recently too during car purchase/handover, was shit though i think.
Thought that counted though.

Did you beat them down on the price so they maybe thought fuck ya? :)

Having said that we beat the poor bastard down pretty hard too.

Out of curiosity, did Subaru budge much on price?

No, I pushed hard as we got a nice discount on the BRZ but I was happy with the driveway price of the RS40 anyway they also gave me 4 weeks to sell my car which helped for the deposit.

Plates On

1 Attachment(s)
1st pic with plates and Perth WRX surrounds on, sorry for the iPhone lack of quality.

My thoughts so far on the car coming from a Modded but tiring 2001 Bugeye . . .

Good:

Stock handing, much less body roll than the stock Bugeye.
Recaro Seats
Short shifter and a slight gearbox whine makes it feel fairly racy to shift.
2.5L torque.
Big central tacho.
Easier for passengers to get in the rear.
60/40 split fold seats.
Body shape, spoilers, paint and rim colours.
Factory tint.
Stock exhaust has a bit of character to it.

Bad:

Gear knob
Stereo head unit
Small top mount intercooler
plastic plumbing bits
no boost gauge
brakes a bit weak
Chrome window detailing
Key fob design
double tapping the fob to unlock rear doors
Fuel consumption, noticeably more than the Bugeye

Thats it for now, will post updates (and better pics) as they happen . . .

Yorkie 09-04-2014 02:57 PM

Looking mint! :)

Soksta 09-04-2014 03:11 PM

You can disable the double locking features, I think it explains how to in the manual.

I'll flick you a link for the service manual tonight, handy to have for removing interior trim :D
