As soon as I gave them more than 3 it became 'highly modified' and not insurable through them. Lol Shannon's FTW |

Mine were mostly cosmetic mods which allowed me to increase the agreed value by over $3500 by only increasing the premium slightly. They did tell me that they only increase the value within a certain percentage of the market value.

When I got the cover they had no issues with the mods will see what they say when the new motor is in and tuned

I tried telling them my mods list after a year of owning my GX (no performance, only noisy exhaust, WRX brakes, stock height upgraded suspension, cosmetics) and got a "Sorry, you've got a week to find alternative cover, mods value exceeds cars value" (17 at the time). Tried to get 3rd party, fire & theft earlier this year after the STI swap and got "Too young + too powerful, sorry".
I'm sure they're fine with a few things, but just be careful when you move away from the usual rims + exhaust + stereo (especially if you're younger!) |

Young high powered car insurance are almost mutually exclusive.
Twin cam 2l modded Escort and comprehensive insurance was $800 a year when I was 18. That was in 1987

Recently had to deal with RAC and my mods. Felt better them knowing everything about my car than risking a failed claim due to unknown mods.
I told them everything I've done so far, 3" TBE, BOV, short shift, Hellas, tune. After 30 mins on the phone with them back and forth to their underwriters and asking for HP gains and such, they said they appreciated my honesty and will insure but said if I do much more then it will most likely cross their line and become too modified to insure. So until I add few numbers to my age to insure elsewhere, looks like I'm stopping for a while in terms of performance mods. They were nice enough to deal with and best thing was they didn't increase my premium |

I don't think they will bat an eyelid at a 250-300hp WRX driven by a mature aged driver. They'll always consider it on a case by case basis when they put you on hold and talk to their underwriters.
Also, they will probably have the factory power rating in front of them. Say for example you were to insure a MY09+ with them, their info probably shows a power rating of 192kw (iirc). If you tell them your car has 200kw after an exhaust and tune they're not going to know that measurement is at the hubs/wheels as opposed to the crank.

Forgot to add that I am over 30 years old so they had no problem with it and been a customer for over 6 years with rac with no claims when mods were put on insurance policy

I work for them, although in IT I have my insurance contacts. (Investigators & Underwriting Supervisors)
My car & all my modifications are covered. I'm currently at the maximum insured amount possible on my make & model. Quote:
Where things begin to be a problem is when you upgrade the Turbo. I have been flatly told that as soon as I upgrade my Turbo, I will need to provide HP/KW figures & I would be immediately told to look else where.
