Hi Guys,

stumbled on this thread as most of today was spent hunting quotes to insure my car. As a few members mentioned be honest with the modifications on the car - which i was.

What made me nearly stomp my phone was (to quote Little Britain) "computer says noooooo". Does your driver record even count these days? I'm 26, had my full license for just over 8 years, no accidents, no disqualifications, rating 1 basically what i thought was a big bunch of ticks but still comes up with diddly. Can someone please shed some light on this?

And i didnt mean to hijack the thread but from what im seeing i can only guess that my situation is almost a mirror image for the majority.

Insurance companies can't even shed light on this question. I question it every year when my premium goes up by a stupid amount and have to (attempt to) negotiate a lower premium. They always use the trump card "there are many variables". ie. your suburb, crime statistics in the area, how much they've paid out over the last few years (apparently many companies are still slowly clawing back payouts from the Perth and Melbourne hail storms a couple of years back), whether your car is a popular choice for thieves, blah blah blah.

I'm 34, lost one point in my entire life and haven't had a speeding fine for 11 years yet I'd still be paying upwards of $1300-$1400 if it weren't for a multi-policy and "loyal customer" discount. Have been with SGIO for 14 years.

From what i have learned in inventory programming its a statistical thing with each variable having a weighted score then mashed up together in a grid matrix.....the final value gets a yes or no. In saying that i wouldnt be surprised if their is a magic 8-ball on some guys desk. As stupid/criminal their system is they have a good grip on the family jewels (like you would really want to drive your car uninsured :P)

Some hope today though Just-Car insurance got me an unbelievable quote which by comparison to the rest was enough to put a HUUUUUGE smile on my dial all day.

I've have an 07 non STI and I pay $1040 through RAC (after moving from SGIO, because they went from $1000 to $1400 the following year). I have a perfect driving history and I'm 33.

wtf! How are you people getting it for $800?
