I have an 09 wrx sedan. Its a fast car in a straight line but the handling was quite sloppy until you do some handling mods. I have only put in coilovers in for now and that has made it a lot more enjoyable. The brakes will definitely need upgrading if you're going to do any track work whatsoever. Not that i have done any but i have felt it fade just from going to the pwrx CM cruise.

IMO, go the sti. Don't get me wrong, the wrx is a nice car for a daily driver until you splash some coin on it of course.

How hard were you driving between meet points?!
Its going to be 2014 tomorrow and if a used MY08 STI was going to suffer a ringland failure it would have happened by now I am betting.
I guess it depends on the kms done and how it has been driven. May not have been driven to failure yet. I get what you're saying but personally their history would be enough for me to shy away from one.

Was just trying to keep up with the Sti's out there. :P

Nah, no harder than anyone else that day. I started to feel it after the hill just before the 2nd meet point.

Yeh the brakes on the standard 09 wrx are absolute shite

Dan [GTI] 31-12-2013 12:17 PM

Wow, did not realise they were that bad.

A lot of it comes down to pads and rotors.

That and at least DOT4 fluid, this should make a world of difference in a track / spirited driving scenario. Still not Brembo though :D

And an 05 STI will be 9 years old (and nearly 2 generations old)
