2014 wrx sedan - 1413kg
2014 sti sedan - 1515kg (spec r - 1525kg)
2015 sti sedan - 1560kg!

Wtf? Why is the sti's so much heavier?

The Looks and Performance is not impressive either, Glad I got a new 2014 WRX

Extra weight to more chassis stiffing. If you think the 2014 WRX drives better you have not driven the 2015. FA engine and awesome handling in stock.. STI has the same engine but. Decisions decisions..

Go the STi you will never regret it IMO. Although, I think if you hold off a year and sales begin to drop off I recon they will revise the engine and up the power.

That is a $%&*load more weight, I even consider my car too lardy coming from the bugeye which itself was considered overweight compared to the GC8 it replaced. Would like to go test drive a decent old Rex to see the difference in feel of a lighter chassis.

STI has a 6 speed which is a fair bit bigger than the 5. slightly bigger turbo, TMIC, brakes, larger rear wing etc. They are all small things but I guess it all adds up.

From what I've read the extra weight comes from the higher % of high tense steel, new stiffening features, larger rims, body is longer and higher than before, wheel base is longer, knee airbags, 8 speaker sound system, dual piston rear calipers and a whole bunch of other little things...

All adds up but at least they could have upped the power instead of keeping it the same and dropping the torque slightly.

*This is between the outgoing model STi and new one, not the WRX.

Had a closer look at Melville Subaru today, they have the WRX outside and the STI on the showroom floor.
Surprisingly they do look better in real life.
Lip, low and wider rims/tyres will set the car off easily.
Also got on the ground to have a look at what space is available for larger rims, appeared to be a good inch or so of clearance from the strut to the rim!
