keep the wires under tension, then pre wrap it with simple loops at 200mm intervals, come back over the top with a consistent overlapping diagonal wrapping. use scissors to cut the tape, dont stretch and tear.

Yeah, keep the tape tight & at a fair angle, I used that clear spiral wrap on mine & it's disintegrated after 3 months, mind you it's been in the shed for at least 15 years.
