Default STI and WRX synchros

Hey guys,
Test drove a 05 MY05 sti and also a 05 MY06 WRX with an upgraded turbo.
If found that the STI was more "notchy" compared to the WRX.
Is this just down to the synchros on STI or is there something more at play there? It went in fine in all gears but did get the feeling.

Without having driven either....
The 6 speed is the stronger gearbox and will feel a lot more solid. If there was no crunching or grinding then a change of oil is probably due.

Apparently it just had a big service and stamped with Subaru Osborne park.
Doesn't have and crunching etc, just not a smooth.

Having driven the 5 and the 6 speed the 6 definitely feels firmer if I was you I wouldn't even bother looking at a wrx.

The usual outcome is people but the wrx spend money getting it to the point of an Sti then realise they should have got an Sti in the first place. Sell said wrx buy Sti and start again, go on ask me how I know :P
Master D and davidsdh like this.

6speed had heavy duty everything. 5speed not so much.
STi all the way. There are some great catches out there at the moment.

"Notchy" is what its about.
It lets you know you're in gear, out of gear.
Its a notch. Notch in, not out, notch in. Like a Japanese hokey pokey.

If you want a wrist easing, porridge stirring box, buy a commodore.

Or an auto.

Notchy translates to japanese as "positive".
Its good.

Thanks for that. Puts my mind at ease a little more. Was going put it over a pit and get it looked at before going to purchase it if I did decide to.
