see what happens

slappy 29-06-2006 06:25 PM

so can you copy the rom and then make a backup, then retune the stock ecu?

waxdass 29-06-2006 06:28 PM

yep, thru tactrix

NVRENUF 29-06-2006 09:34 PM

ok i have a feeling it might actually be a standard cable but he said im still able to change a lot of things and reset ecu. ?

The Tactrix cable has a bit of extra functionality & provides a voltage on a pin back to the ECU to allow re-flashing of the ECU.
Other than that though they are very similar.

The free re-flashing software that is out there is still somewhat in its infancy and people are working on various projects...probably would be more developed if they were all working on the one thing.
yep, thru tactrix
damn sounds too good to be true, can you download good maps from anywhere and try them? Im going to do some research as its an interesting prospect.

Tip - if you plan to download maps onto your ecu or tweak your ecu, suggest you get your AFRs, etc checked properly.

slappy 29-06-2006 10:46 PM

ok, purely a hypothetical at this point but good advice.

kenneth2koh 30-06-2006 01:43 AM

Tips... know what you are doing!

Also... beware of the ecu "marry" issues coming up... bye bye ecu if you are not careful.. oh yes..

MY06's have checksums.. so if you decided to edit.. you'll miff something.

Also remember first 8kb of RAM has your VIN number...

NVRENUF 30-06-2006 07:07 PM

yeah sounds bit risky if ya ask me.. id be happy just checking for errors and being able to reset them .. thats cool.. clear one error code pays for it self..
