Default P plater mods nsw

Hey everyone;

I've recently bought myself an 04 xt forester, stock as a rock. I am also on my green p's, so I know that I am not allowed to have any engine modifications. In saying that, I want to know what that specifically entails. I am looking at putting an exhaust system on it (been looking at the invidia q200, feedback on that exhaust would be good?) but I don't know if I legally can or not. Hoping someone has had experience with the new laws as I've only just moved back too nsw and my friends are clueless too what is allowed.

Vehicle restrictions < Younger drivers < Drivers < Staying safe < NSW Centre for Road Safety

Any modification that needs 'engineers approval' in NSW.

I'm going to assume an aftermarket exhaust won't need an engine cert.?
Would a bigger turbo require one? I'm looking at putting a vf34 in early next year if I'm able to.

Would be best to simply go to a NSW registered road worthy mechanic and ask. The laws in NSW are very different to WA and I haven't lived in NSW for nigh on 20 years so my knowledge would be dated. As an example there were no P plate restrictions when I lived there.

Edit - http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/...ifications.pdf

There a fact sheet for you. For your info I googled the above. Perhaps you could consider doing the same.

I've asked mechanics and contacted the RMS but I can't get a straight answer. Thanks for your help though, it's much appreciated mate.

The fact sheet states that the turbo swap would most likely need engineering - the exhaust as long as it is the 'equivalent' would not.

By equivalent, do you mean it can't exceed the db/emissions limits?

In Point 5:

Examples not requiring certification:
• Alternative exhaust systems that retain the original or equivalent emission control equipment eg headers, mufflers, complete exhaust systems.
