I'm pretty sure I have read somewhere that frontal car car design is severely hampered by pedestrian safety laws.

A certain portion of the front of the car needs to be be vertical to help prevent the pedestrian being flung over the bonnet and slammed into the windscreen then ping ponging off the roof etc.

I think it's prefered that when they are struck that they are pushed along then away from the vehicle instead.

Don't quote me I could have been on a bender when I read that.
