do ALOT of background reading. i mean ALOT. from DIFFERENT sources.

learn EXACTLY how a car works. what every thing does and what happens etc. before you even decide to play with your ecu.

If you could get access to a mechanical apprenticeship at one of the tuning workshops then that would be the best place to start.

buy yourself a shitbox car that has EFI and a aftermarket ECU and play around with it on a dyno if you can get access to one.

road tuning on road with wideband and a knock sensor isnt a substitute for a dyno tune.

EFI university (http://www.efi101.com/).

Nothing beats the consistancy of a dyno. Don't fool yourself and dont risk your licence.

A far as I'm aware, tuning on a dyno has every variable under control so it should be sufficient to build a map for the safe running of the engine....that can be tuned to the clients needs.

Part of tuning is putting it on the road after the Dyno and fine tweaking it for realistic driving.

Can anyone elaborate? I too would like to know.
