Block thickness isn't an issue, if you want to push big numbers safely then get liners and close deck your block or buy a fully closed deck rs libbo block, but you can make some serious power without having to touch the block structure. Also the main reason for the bores cracking is the lack of lateral support they have i.e: open deck blocks crack easily EJ205, EJ20K blocks etc, however EJ207's are semi-closed and have a lot more lateral strength holding the bores in shape... but at the end of the day the original EJ20 from the RS libbo's is going to be your strongest block and bore strength because it is a fully closed deck block with no room for error to occur

and to answer that one, i believe they are both semi-closed deck blocks but the STi gets the forged internals etc... so same same but different, the only open deck 2.5s from what i've seen are from the early model NA liberty's and forresters Bakks.

V3 Sti RA block is the holy grail block of choice...........if you can find one. And only the gen 1 RS/legacy EJ20 (jap spec) were closed deck.

Hold off till All star get their own dyno, shitworks and co can rot from arse cancer at a bare minimum.
