I was pinned for speeding the other day, 89 in a 60 zone. I know, it was wrong and am not arguing about that. But the cop asked me if I had a reason to speed and I told him I was visiting my wife in hospital (which was the truth). He asked me what was wrong with her and I replied "she's sick" given it was none of his business. His response was "got no sympathy for guys driving cars like that"

Surely if they ask you if you have a reason for speeding and you can give them a legitimate one then they should be a bit lenient

speed cameras are not allowed to be placed within 100 meters of a change in speed, don't know if there is a similar rule for hand helds. maybe get a lawyer and argue the point. otherwise cop it :/

The reason why the cop asked you if you had a legit reason for speeding is because its part of training, it called the 5 step approach.

1. Introduce yourself
2. The reason why you have been stopped
3. Ask for a legit reason
4. Ask for thier licence
5. Make a decision.

The reason for this is that all cops say the same thing and it sounds professional to the general public. So the cop is not fiddling around with what to say. If you do have a legit reason then, the decision will come into play. Speeding to get to the hospital because your wifes in the car bleeding is a legit reason for speeding, not just to get to the hospital to see her

No the speed sign is like an imaginary line on the road, once you have passed this line then you can accelerate up to the speed limit, not before.

And when you approach a speed zone that is slower then you must be at that speed when you cross that line

just pay for it and always slow down when u can see cops!

why give them the opportunity when u know they are there?

all it takes is some cop to have a bad day or someone wanting to meet quota.

3. Ask for a legit reason...

I hate it when cops ask that question, coz imo I think they royally dgaf. They're traffic cops to start with, cmon!!
The times they ask it I cop a fine, the times they don't ask I don't recieve a fine.
I've never attempted sweet talking my way out of fines for that very reason.

It's only a 1pt $100 fine, and if you've got no points or very little accumulated then I wouldn't waste my time fighting it. Pay it and get it over and done with.

Pretty much the sign is where a line should be, you have to be travelling at the lower speed at the time of passing the sign, even if this means slowing down before the sign.
