Western QBE

2004 WRX
SI: 35,500
age: 27
sex: m
History: clean
ncb: 60
Premium: $784 including mods and accessories on car (DMS coilovers, lower arm bar, defi gauges+pod, tint, headlight/bonnet protector and floormats)

Rang them up last after getting a quote from HBF and RAC. Premium at first was as much as Just Cars that it was replacing. I said no thanks as I had got cheaper quotes from two previous places. Asked if I wanted to hold to see if they could match it and came back and said yes. Very Happy

I just got my insurance renewal from RAC for my MY98

$696 for an agreed value of $14,200 for a 42 year old male driver / 35 year old female driver. not too bad, I thought, but I am on a voluntary excess of $150 (ie plus the 250 basic excess = $400 all up)

14,200 is a bit of drop from the 18K it was insured for last year, but from what I can tell the value drops a lot for cars over 10 years old.

I've only done about 85,000 kms and it is a one owner car in excellent condition, but if it gets written off, I should be able to pick up something in similar condition for what it's insured for, right? No real mods except for a Butler TBE, MY99 4 pots, and a ricey boost gauge.

Anyway any feedback if I'm actually under insured would be appreciated

I phoned SGIO for a comparisom and they were about $300 extra.

Tried Shannons as well, seeing as the car is a bit older now, but apparently I'm not 'Enthusiastic' enough for them to deal with me..

Just a tip. Check your PDS (paper work they send you outlining what you've bought) make sure it's not a "market value" policy.

Difference in payout amount from the time you incept a policy to the time you claim can leave you sorely disappointed if it's not an agreed value policy.

ie they charge you a premium BASED on si $35 500....claim 11 months later and they assess your car as being $31950.... less your excess's = bitter taste over several $k shortfall.

Ive dropped $40 a month recentley on my insurance as i think i have a higher no claim bonus.

Believe its now closer to $2000 rather then the $2600 it was. With RAC, but not sure how excatly they will react to me telling them i have some what 'mild' mods.

I've been with HBF for 3yrs but fire & theft only as they want me to put the car over the pits before they will give me full comp because it's gone from 2.2 auto to STI running gear so I'm off to the RAC in about 30min for an inspection, I haven't insured a car for a LONG time & they are offering me 60% no claim straight up...see what happens at 11.30.
