Default we just got an 03 WRX to keep the Typhoon company !!!

hey all,

Im just about to pick up a nice 03 wrx for my girlfriend as her daily so being the carwhore that i am i thought i'd post up on here..

havent got any pics yet as we dont get it til Friday but its WRC blue (as 95% seem to be haha), black interior, manual, dark tint, stainless 3" zorst, boost gauge and pretty much stock apart from that.. oh and its only done 38,000kms and looks brand farken new!!!!!!!
I drive a black FPV Typhoon so the garage should look pretty awesome now with 2 turboed cars!!!

1st mod will be a BOV - anyone know of a decent bolt-in one thats not too loud??

cheers

Welcome!

Two very nice cars by the sound of it!

Why a BOV though? They don't provide any performance gain and it will cause the car to overfuel, thus making it slower unless you get a tune.

Don't do a BOV .. If you've got a full 3" TBE .. Get Verso!

Perhaps some supporting mods .. Fuel Pump, CAI .. Silicone Inlet ..

get a turbo smart megasupa doopa sonic twin trumpet blow off valve, from the reviews they seem to outperform the rest by quite a margin...

thanks mate!! why would a BOV cause it to overfuel?? is the WRX ecu like the phoons where any mods cause it to overboost and the ECU then winds back the boost etc???
I have no idea about WRX mods at all haha

basically being my GF's daily she just wants it to sound nice -which it does with the zorst anyway- but she wanted to whack a quietish BOV on it, nothing too rice central !!!!!

thanks mate, thought we might as well save some cash and go for an older model seeing as we're doing farkloads of home renos at the moment + holidays to save for..
I noticed the black MY06 we were looking at advertised privately for $33,750 was traded and is now up for $39,999 at wangas subaru hahahahah.. not bad markup for the dealer since the private owner took about $32.5-33k for it hahaha

The reason why BOV cause over fuelling is because you're letting the air into the atmo instead of returning it back to the system. This fools your AFM and in turns ur ECU which dumps shit loads of fuel. That's why untuned cars with BOV will puff black smoke every time they shift. BOVs don't provide any kind of performance gains, in fact they do the opposite. BOVs are a wank factor and you'll quickly get sick of it. Generally in the turbo industry they are regarded as rice and most of us hate them hopefully that answers some of your questions

aaahhhhhh that makes sense !!!
I think the turbo fords with aftermarket atmo BOVs then must have their AFM (or equiv) after the BOV and therefore doesnt over fuel?? Most have noted a slight decrease in spool up times as well, but this is negligible

So whats the go with intake mods then? like i said she's not really interested in performance gains at the moment (not until i smoke her off the lights anyway haha) but she loves sound effects and a simple K&N filter on the phoon increased the induction noise and turbo spooling sound a lot, sounds mucchh better...
