Welcome.

Good fun to be had in the WRX's, if you are going to be keen to mod/track go straight up for the STi, its a lot cheaper in the long run.

Personally, I'd go for anything 03 -> 07 in the WRX range.

Shop around. Also look at cars over east. There can be significant savings.
Keep it classic and get a Version 5 or 6 STI.... I am biased on this point.

Bleh...I'm not letting my pockets get deep enough to run an Evo.
I have been down the route of running stupidly expensive cars in the past. The experience is completely soured by big bills and pouring money away you will never see again and spending so much just keeping the car that you never get to go out and really enjoy it.
My mortgage and going on holiday are much more fun than that

You do not need an STi or EVO to have fun at the track!!!! A well sorted WRX will put plenty of smiles on your dial

I was in a similar boat as you about 3 months ago, budget of $25-$33k which meant evo7/maybe8, bugeye STi, or peanut/pignose rex. This was just before the economy went to shit.

Ended up with a peanut for $26 because it was newer, was a lot more low km examples to chose from, and a pig wasn't worth the extra $6k. Looks like now the prices of both peanuts and pigs have come down a bit since and there's a lot more pigs to chose from.

There are quite a few in the newspaper and online, especially if you are looking for a stocker.

Having said all that, when i was looking there was no peanut STi's for sale near my budget, now there are a few around/below $35k, if i was looking now i'd be pushing my budget for one of those babies.
