Default Newbie to PWRX, looking for a classic

Hey guys, title pretty much says it.. Not in a Subaru yet, I'm in the market for a classic at the moment. I'd like a fairly stock one (but will have a look at anything in my price rage). Pretty tight budget though, looking at about $12k max. I know, sorta pushing it for a decent one.

I've already found an interesting one, will be getting it workshop inspected 2moro and see how it goes. Any advice on what to look out for/avoid?

Soon as I get myself this new toy, I hope to meet most of you guys at some cruises coming up soon.

Welcome mate,
$12,000 for a decent classic shape wrx isn't really that unrealistic. If possibly hunt down a 99-00 model. There's a few subtle changes cosmetically, but also things like 4-pot brakes up front standard. Definately the way to go.

Good luck with the search.

Oh ok, thanks for that. I've noticed the body and interior differences but didn't know there was more to it. The one I'm sort of going ahead with atm is an MY97 model. But the seller accepted 11k, and it seems to be quite good condition. So, I'll see how this turns out. If not, I'll definately keep that in mind.

i'd opt for 99+, the aftermarket parts are much more common with all the later models.

You will kick yourself for not spending the extra thousand or two to get an MY99/00.
