Dealer Extras
Hello all i'm a super newbie on this forum after purchasing my first ever new car yesterday - a blue wrx hatch
Before I take delivery I must make the decision wether or not to pay the dealer for the 'protection pack' which im all for doing as I have 2 kids but the price seems a bit steep ($1700 for exterior & interior) although as it's end of financial year they are throwing in reversing sensors. So my question is am I better off paying to get this titanium paint stuff that's put on with heat guns (suposedly you never polish it) along with the interior stuff they put on (whatever that is) OR would me and a can of scotchguard etc. etc. do the trick just as well? Would certainly be heaps cheaper! |

Don't waste your money, better off getting a detailer apply a good wax & interior protection yourself.

As above, save your money.
Put it on with a heatgun? Only if its stone chip film, otherwise its a bottle of polish and a can of scotchguard that they charge you 1700 dollars for. |

Don't waste your money and use that $1700 to buy worthy mods
and some good wax or buy your family something nice.

Yeah its supposedly nano-technology paint protection which they set with big hair dryers - i wouldnt mind the reversing sensors but the dealer fiited price is $700.
Also I was going to ask them how much for the sat nav but another post on here is about how much they want to charge to update the maps so thats not looking on the cards either. |

Sounds like typical dealer bullshit to me.
I have a proper dealership paint protection kit sitting at home, and its just 2 bottles. Paint prep and paint polish. Apply with foam applicator, wipe off with microfibre cloth. Single car use, cost price is 70 dollars. Dealers charge from 500 up to 3000 depending on what make I.e. You'll pay the higher price at luxury dealerships. The genuine Subaru sat nav is around 3k.. Save your money and buy a Tom Tom |

Depends if you can beat them down on price.....I basically got the whole protection pack for a little bit more than what they wanted for the tint alone but no way in hell I'd be paying $1700 for it.

When I use to work for John Hughes Automotive Panel & Paint the rust prevention pack worked like this.
Customer paid for complete rust proofing, dealership only applied it to the areas where it would be seen. Regarding this 'out of no where', coat they apply to the paint that 'once applied', negates the need for the car to ever be polished again. This is the biggest scam of them all. As what ever they apply to it comes off when you wash it with water 'ask any detailer, any real detailer, how many chamois they've had to throw away because of this. Best & Cheapest way to protect your vehicle:
Possibly best to do this on the grass as you'll get crap everywhere if you don't know what's going to drip where etc, leave the doors open and put ice cream containers underneath the drains, and let it dry.

Good suggestion mARC but some of us older members CBF doing all that and that's what "they" rely on to make their sales.....I did the DIY back when I got my MY99 new with the scotch gaurding etc...ended up getting the crap everywhere obviously because it's airborne it sticks to everything.
