Default Hi all (newbie)

Hi all my names Matt and thought i would say hi
Im 23 I have a 98 impreza GX, (yes all laugh) But it is/was my partners (mine now) she has had it for nearly 5 years and has just been sitting around for about a year so i have decided to turn it in to a drift car, not seen anyone do this yet in WA, i know JWS dabble in this sort of thing but im goin to do as much as possible myself then off to the experts for verious things/stages.

If anyone can give me any tip or info on what way i should go it would be very nice to hear,

I have had experience in mechanics and a drift car but not an impreza

I am aiming for the build to be complete about 1 year from now. depending on how lazy i get.

Car has been striped already and i have spare parts everywhere so if anyone needs anything dont hessitate to pm me.

I have seen a few people in the states run Sr20's in there but not sure atm could be Rb25. how hard would it be to stick with the EJ DNA and make RWD, would the motor produce enough power to keep evrything spinning? What would u suggest?

thanks for that.
the r180 is out of what model wrx?
not sure which is better the r180 or the kaaz 1.5?

sounds like a lot of work with diverting drive here then there with the centre diff.

the idea i had was to drop a wrx rear diff in (not sure which one)
then drop the motor of choice and gearbox in then get custom tailshaft and away we go (to speak)

it will not only be used for drift but also time attack and track nights.

all info and opinions are much appreciated

found on this site:http://www.iwsti.com/forums/drivetra...-dccd-faq.html

Just to add some more information:

Everyday driving:

While buzzing around town and general everyday driving, it is generally agreed that the DCCD should be set to Auto. This provides a default of 35/65 which balances to 50/50 under hard acceleration.

Drag strip:

A lot of people find that Auto works the best on the drag strip. People seem to cut more consistent 60' times. This doesn't mean Open (35/65) doesn't work, but for the most part people have had great success in Auto.

Clunking/Shuddering While Parking:

If you hear and/or feel some serious clunking, grinding, or shaking, while making tight turns and/or parking, it is most likely due to the fact that you don't have the DCCD set to Auto. When you use one of the Lock modes, you are trying to force the wheels to turn at the same rate which causes much grief to the differentials. No one knows if this can actually cause damage but from how it sounds, I wouldn't want to risk it.

Therefore, for parking or tight turns use Auto.

When Should I Use Lock?:

The lock-modes should be reserved for when traction is very limited. A good example would be icy or snow covered roads/parking lots. Another good example would be loose surfaces

This link is better explained though

Ok well that was very informative.
i understand the concept of the dccd now but is 65R 35F the max it can split or is this just what is recommended, and also in a drift application would this really work because u would really need somthing along the lines of 95R 5F or 100%R unless you are running stupid power like 500+ then i would think 75R 25F would work with right tyre selection?
