Default Newbie questions (insurance etc)

Hi peoples,

Firstly I'm a complete newbie so please excuse my lack of knowledge regarding lingo etc.

I thought I'd get a few opinions from people. I know stuff all about cars (other than what 'w arghh x' has tought me). I love our WRX and I'm going to take up performancing moding.

Obviously this is going to be an expensive hobby (and I'm prepared for it) but I figure I'm not made of cash so I'll need some more info to make informed decissions and limit the cost, so heres some newbie questions.

-We're paying 1k in insurance a year (RAC) at the moment with the WRX (no performance mods) in my wifes name with me as a secondary driver... what's a standard insurance price and what companies are good etc for a WRX with mods? (Oh I'm 26 if that helps).

-Do MY98-99 WRXs with performance mods pop up for sale often in Perth?

I figure I can either:
-mod the current one,
-buy a second with mods (keep both),
-replace the current one with a modified one.

Thanks in advance,

Im with HBF and Im 26 too. I pay 990 a year with HBF but I think they only allow minor mods such as exhaust etc. I have a 55% no claim.

I'm suprised at how little you pay Mr Psi. Is the car registered in your name with you listed at the primary driver? I am 20, with a loss of license due to demerits and I am paying over 3 times that amount with RAC.

Probably easier to mod your current wrx. By the time you search around, pay stamp duty etc, will it be really worth it? Sure theres probably a few decent MY99's going around with good mods, but more hassles!

HBF / RAC will cover mods to a certain extent. I know some ppl have insured ecu's et al with them, but a LOT havent. Just Car's are great with premiums and mods, but not so good with the excesses..

I'd buy the banana coloured yellow one that's for sale - it's really good, and goes really fast

Here's some prices of insurance for a lot of the members in an earlier thread:

I am currently with HBF and I'm not happy seeing that they decided to up it by $350 without telling me. It was $850 and they have bumped it to $1200. Reason you ask............. "because we have recently re-classified the vehicles and wrx is now classed as a performance vehicle."

So I am not renewing my insurance and am going back to RAC who have quoted $837 with full no claim bonus and I've just turned 27.

Dan.
