as for the N/A impreza idea, dont bag it out to hard.

a cheap 02 RS2.5 impreza in manual would be a wicked car to learn AWD vehicle dynamics on, plus it looks and (can) sound like a wrx if you really want it to, but wont have insurance bill to boot.
Fast enough to have fun, Safe enough you may not kill yourself :-)
