Isn't it true that the 08 models had the shittest/most-unreliable of the 2.5ltre engines?

I would go with the advice of MMS and ASG. Leave the engine alone for now.

Go with handling and brake upgrades.

What I know is 3rd gen sti has weaker connecting rod, so the absolute limit is 350whp, but the rest is same as 06-07 sti. subaru had a recall on 08sti, because ecu cause detonation at high rev.

There are still pre08 sti had their piston failed. I think if u r really worried about the reliability, just use aos, thick oil, magnetic drain plug/magnet on oil filter, then drive slowly(ie 10min) before oil temp reaches proper temp and don't hit redline all the time.

My car has 290whp, two of my friends have 310whp and 295whp with factory internals.

PS: handling first is always a good idea if u want to track ur car

Thought that the issues with the 08 STIs was a bad batch of something used in the engine (can't remember specifics).
Also remember reading about a few people in Perth who have been given replacement short blocks when the stock one went.

This might be of some interest...

The previous owner told me dealer said its caused by bad ecu program.

So many people got engine rebiult by dealer on nasioc, so it could be bad piston ring(finger crossed)

Thanks too all for your comments and suggestions
I'm not sure what avenue I will take yet leave it mild , take the risk with the tune without doing the internals or bite the bullet and open her up.....
Anyways you have given me plenty to think about ... I know one thing it was a lot easier when I did some works on my 6lt commodore
Dam you fat Betty curse !!!!
