Isn't it true that the 08 models had the shittest/most-unreliable of the 2.5ltre engines?
I would go with the advice of MMS and ASG. Leave the engine alone for now. Go with handling and brake upgrades. |

I think if u r really worried about the reliability, just use aos, thick oil, magnetic drain plug/magnet on oil filter, then drive slowly(ie 10min) before oil temp reaches proper temp and don't hit redline all the time. My car has 290whp, two of my friends have 310whp and 295whp with factory internals. PS: handling first is always a good idea if u want to track ur car

Thought that the issues with the 08 STIs was a bad batch of something used in the engine (can't remember specifics).
Also remember reading about a few people in Perth who have been given replacement short blocks when the stock one went. This might be of some interest...

I'm not sure what avenue I will take yet leave it mild , take the risk with the tune without doing the internals or bite the bullet and open her up..... Anyways you have given me plenty to think about ... I know one thing it was a lot easier when I did some works on my 6lt commodore Dam you fat Betty curse !!!! Cheers guys |
