Hi peoples. I'm Andy. I don't have a WRX but looking at getting one so I thought I would join the forum and get some ideas. Probably a 2000-2001, hopefully low kms and few mods. If anyone has suggestions, knows of a good example or is willing to take me for a test drive pm me. Been following motorsport for a very long time and have done a few track days in the past.

Welcome Andy. Any idea of budget? Personally if I were looking at the Bugeye era I'd only be looking at a Bugeye STi

Welcome mate,

As Craig said the bug STI is awesome bang for buck performance, there is white one with 115kkms for 16k in stock standard condition, would be a great platform to start with.

Best of luck, enjoy :-)

Budget is probably around $11 with a bit (1k) to spend on maintenance. What is the advantage of the STI? I have got used to good torque (350nm at 3200 in bmw m3 with a short diff) and am trying to get away from a lot of revs, requiring subtle Q car with a lot of grunt out of slow street corners and no plan of track use (can't afford it).

Sti has forged internals from factory 207 block r180 diffs 6 speed gear box, to list a few. It's like a 325 e36 vs a e36 m3. They just are better and most people buy a wrx and then get an Sti. Take it from someone who did that save a little longer and buy the Sti.

2002 Subaru Impreza MY02 WRX STI White 6 Speed Manual Sedan | Cars, Vans & Utes | Gumtree Australia Wanneroo Area - Wangara | 1022099036

STI has 207 motor (forged and can handle a lot more boost) Brembos, 180 limited slip diffs front and rear, and the best part is the 6 speed box.

Buy a standard bug and add all that on, or spend the extra 3-4k on the initial purchase and enjoy!

Mine is making 330nm with a tune, with headers will see ~350.

Just my 2 cents anyways

Yeh same thing. Bought a wrx. Realised id be wasting money on it when i could just buy an sti and get more for my money. A bugeye wrx is 11k. A bugeye sti is 16k. If you where to spend 5k on a stock wrx it might be just as fast as a stock sti, but it will have a weaker engine, smaller turbo, weak 5spd instead of a bullet proof 6spd. Really the list just keeps going. I say save yOur money and buy an sti as tgey are better value in the long run. But if your not going to be modding or tracking as you said a wrx will be fine.

Anyway welcome to PWRX, the place where we make decisions so much harder.

You keep saying 16 for one but recently they've been going for under 15k, just be patient. Don't forget to haggle, I got 4k off the asking price.
