Body work requirements are , faded paint, small surface rust spot on the roof in the centre of the windscreen, rear quarter dent and both bumpers have cracks n stars, the front having been butchered for the fmic

Body work is a slippery slope, once you start painting it can spiral out of control pretty quick.
Paint-less dent removal and second hand parts can get you 85% of the way without destroying your savings... assuming the parts you find are better then the current ones.

[QUOTE='Dan [GTI];835693']The cutting has been done so may as well just leave the FMIC in there and seems like it is a decent fit. The intake situation would see worthwhile gains in drive-ability and some power.
With rims 18's can look a bit too big depending on the style. 17's look killer 2001-2004 WRX Size: 17x7" Offset: +55 Bolt pattern: 5x100 Wheel Weight: 8.5KG These are my pick of the three Dan, I don't mind the extra bit of height that the 18" on mine give over the stock 16" (they must of had quite low profiles on them too) because the fmic and exhaust tail still clear curbs n car parks, but having had 4x4's , it was all about clearance,,, I know I know, peer into bathroom mirror and slap oneself repeatedly

You weren't at the Warnbro shops yesterday were you? saw a scruffyish noisy V2 Wagon pull up in front of Coles.
I'm pretty sure if you research it you'll find the original wheels on 96's were 15", they introduced the 16" to clear the 4 pots on the JDM 97 V3 STI

As for the wheels, they were what the previous owner said were the originals, I know they were on it when it changed hands in 08 because the add was in the file that came with the car,, the rims are 16x6.5 and from what I found seemed to match the engine, transmission/diff codes,, but they don't match the body

So I spent a bit of time looking up the plate codes and have at least figured out, as was already pointed out to me, that I've a version 2 wagon GF8C58D thus manufactured pre Aug 96.
Engine type EJ20GDW5PE Transmission TY752VB4AA Option code 61C, which I understand confirms it as an STI And from what I could see through the engine bay forest, its got a TD05 turbo Any additional information would be much appreciated , as it will help me with trying to research parts and troubleshooting

Its confusing as fuck but basically it comes down to the parts fitted to the vehicle not the code . a stock WRX that year will have the same 61C code and a wrx will also have an sti gearbox code as there was 0 difference between the boxes unless RA which has shorter ratios and non auto dccd as options. the thicker 1,2,3rd gears in the ra box didnt happen til V3 onwards. The engines are where the difference lies and the ECU. The STIs had a modified ECU different cam profile and a couple of other minor differences . Id check your ECU code . This may have been changed by a previous owner tho as its a common mod . Classic V1/V2 all ran 380 cc injectors as well it wasnt until V3 in 97 they ran 440 cc .http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/stock-ec...ers-specs.html But sorry to say you probably just have a WRX |
