yeah be keen to see results as fellow standard rex owner, break upgrades needed as they dont quite cut the mustard.

8 pot bit excessive for the road, for most of us anyway

Yes, what size rims are you running?

Propitiatory pads in Kido brakes only or do other manufacturers make pads for them?
There are lots of pad manufacturers, the pads are the same as AP Racing use. I would be confident that AP Racing and Ferodo make pads for both. Did you know that AP Racing is owned by Brembo?

I have just checked with the factory and been told KiDo is not a copy of AP Racing, or Alcon but they use the same pad design as AP Racing.

I agree, I would love to have a direct comparison between Brembo 4 pots (STI) the Brembo 6 pots (S206), stock WRX and a couple of sets of KiDo's with similar rotor sizes to the 2 Brembo types. The problem is that someone will always pick holes in a test. The pads were different, they were not run in the same way, the wheels gave better ventilation on one car, they had different tyre with better/not so good grip, the ABS was an issue ETC.

Then there is the question of what to test. The pedal pressure, the stopping distance, from how fast, how many times, the "feel" etc.

Having said that I still would love to see an independent test with video if possible.

I don't have a lot of experience with before and after testing of cars, but I can say that (as you would expect) going from stock MY09 Forester (same as MY08+ WRX) brakes to the 356x32 8 pots made a HUGE difference, and on a VE Commodore it was more than huge. The VE has the worse stock brakes I can remember driving, except maybe the EH (1964) I had once, with 4 wheel drums.

6 pots on a Liberty located in Perth. 4 pots on the rear.

are you joking? Given the right pad and fluid combo, standard brakes are more than adequate for all street/skid pan work and the majority of track work the average enthusiast would do
teejay and RUSSGT like this.

No need to do so much. Testing is about minimizing variables.

Test a STi with standard brembo brakes and the same model sti with KiDo brakes.

Both cars use the same pads. Both cars use the same tyres (brand and size). Both cars use the same new brake fluid.

Measure 100-0kmh distance.

Measure temperatures. Or measure how many repeated attempts you can have until fade is introduced.

That's it. Definite proof of which setup is better.

Don't bother testing against things like S206 brakes as we can't get a S206 locally. If you change pad compounds on the different setups that will negate all testing. If you change tyres that will negate all testing.
MadDocker and Terry.Wrist like this.

I would be interested in the weight compraisons here...big heavy calipers and rotors might not always be the best choice.

Well my last car was a dc2r with 4 pot upfront so going from that to the standard Wrx brakes, you can understand why I don't think they cut the mustard

Yes I'm am aware of this but is my Wrx not substantially heavier than an integra type R ? 300-400 kilos roughly ? I personally feel an upgrade in the brakes wouldn't be a waste of money
