Cheap price for the tunes though!
The owner drives. Matt will be in the passenger seat watching the engine performance parameters. We do NOT ask for anything illegal when driving, but we definitely prefer a quiet road and it must have a 100 kmh or higher limit.

FYI then you wont find those sorts of roads in Perth, and you would be lucky to get to 100 kmh on our one freeway unless it is after midnight LOL

Ask for nothing illegal yet want logs to redline in 3rd or 4th gear? Also what happens when you're on the track and go over those loads in 5th or 6th?

Matt does some of his best work after midnight, but I'm sure we can find a road somewhere.

You are always so negative Russ. Tell you what I will do, if your GT is an MY2000 or later book a time slot and Matt will install a base tune for you to try. If you don't like it, he will reinstall your current tune and you can walk away, no commitment on your part. Does that sound like a good deal?

Ok, when it comes to a tuning an engine a wise tuner builds in a number of safe guards. Things like a low boost cut level, fast timing fall back if detonations are detected etc. These are also the things that are often overlooked by many who tune. Speaking from personal experience I know that the boost cut level on the SH9 was set to high as it came from the factory and the OEM timing will record some FLKC even when running 98RON and its supposed to run happily on 95RON. Fixing these can only be good for the life expectancy of the engine. Having said that, if you increase the power, regardless of how, you also increase the wear and possibility of failure. This applies to more than just the engine, but also the entire transmission, and engine ancillaries too.

Bottom line is that if you play, you pay.

I also think it's very easy to blame the tuner, when in fact there are 100's of potential reasons for an engine failure. Look at the warranty failures for any car maker. They are more common than you might think. Some years ago when I was driving HSV's and had 2 (untouched) engines fail in 50,000km I was told by Consumer Affairs that my experience with the HSV was within the normal quota for almost any brand I could name.

Your other question about 5th & 6th on the track should never be an issue. I assume you are referring to the possibility of having higher boost occur at lower ramp rates (lower acceleration in higher gears)? Yes this can happen with a poorly designed tune as the turbo inertia is less of a limiting factor in getting it to spool up, but with the turbo dynamics set up correctly it is never an issue.

I hope that answers your questions?
