I just turned 20,just got off my p's and i have a 05 wrx about to go for a tune soon so it will be getting quicker..

My point is, that it isnt people like me with "high powered vehicles" that make the roads dangerous. Its the people being twats in, usually a v6 commodore or straight 6 falcon (rwd vehicles) that make it dangerous. And they make it dangerous on the roads because they haven't had proper training and understanding of there vehicles particularly with rwd vehicles and "red p platers".

Also if this law does come in (not a bad idea for early 6 month p platers) then they need to be more specific ie: power to weight ratios

A "tune" can substantially change a power to weight ratio.

There are more idiots in commodores and falcons because they have been two of the most popular cars in this country for the last 30 plus years - by sheer volume they will win.

Indeed it can. which is why we get it right?

Just saying that its mainly the drivers in rwd vehicles that could lose control much easier, AND very unexperienced that are on L's and early stage of P's.

You do know the two major young driver crash stories involved

1. Commodore

2. Wrx

yeah?

If you want to play the generalisation game - heres one for you

"awd's breed false confidence into young drivers who dont know how to control them close to or beyond their limits, and because of their inherrent ability to enter turns at a higher speed the consequences are worse"

Very true.

I agree that everyone should be better trained no matter what type of drivetrain you have, like they do in finland.

But i would say rwd's are more likely to loose control over awd's? if confidence levels are the same.
Obviously they couldn't ban young drivers from rwd vehicles, but they do need more training (skin pan etc)

However you'll be likely loose control at higher speeds in an awd than a rwd car, hence causing more damage.

I think if you wanted to get technical, pound for pound RWD's are probably in general terms the best handling setups.

In an AWD you often have comprimised setups with more weight over the front of the car which induces understeer.

But that totally ignores 100000000000 other factors.

My girlfriend is still on her
L's (she is 18 and will be closer to 19 when she gets her p's so lazy!!!) I got my Ls at 16 p's on my 17 and tore up my p's as a cop drove past at 12.01 on my 19th haha the cop rocking up was a lil unexpected..

Any way I dunno what the test is like up Perth further but mandurah really is piss weak 1/3 is how to park your car wtf really what does that test for a young driver handling a car A more than an idle roll..
The other is left something behind ???? Do they think we are all forgetful idiots ?? Or is this just a mandurah and rocko thing

I mean I'm 20 now and I no I still get tempted to do stupid stuff in the Foz pushing limits to far and have been bitten hard due to just not understanding my car fully rac or ahg driving centre should be a must I think !!
