This issue I have with this article is nothing to do with the journalism, they are just quoting some ass from the MUA who is claiming that he represents all FIFO workers.

Like Dave said, you can't compare the construction rosters to a producing mine they are polar opposites of the industry.

Interesting that the Maritime Union is commenting on mine sites? I haven't seen many boats in the desert...

I'm sorry, but they are obviously happy with their pay, otherwise they would leave? There isn't a gun to their head, so there is a reason they are there.

End of the day, there is only so much money that can be spent on employees. Mines are doing ok now, but there is a big big big chance of this cash cow leaving WA as it becomes uneconomical.

Everyone likes the idea of the big money, but often the reality is way worse than what they expect. There is a reason why the divorce rate amongst FIFO workers is higher than the average and other things like losing touch with your circle of friends etc. I think many go into FIFO work with rose coloured glasses to a degree. I have a few mates who reckon they wanna "go earn some cash in the mines" and they kinda get offended when I tell them they dont have the stomach for FIFO - its not for everyone. I'm fortunate that I do small projects on and off (6 to 8 times a year), max of 2 weeks away at a time and thats more than enough - I'd neck myself if I had to do that for years on end.
