Seems to me the greying population thinks it's fine to drive in the right hand lane at 20 Km below the limit on the freeway ...

Mr Fitzgerald said: "These people don't seem to have any concern about their vehicle, their tyres or people's lives."

I personally am so tired of this bloody nanny state and their draconian rules.

Alternate 17-02-2013 10:36 AM

Couldn't help by laugh at some of the comments, this one stood out.

there's internet crews who`s whole intention is to break these laws in perth, like on antilag. maybe if you chase those offenders you`l stop part of the problem instead of letting them openly break the law.
Also wonder if exhaust noise will be included under this point.
What happens if the car has an exhaust that meets the current ADR's for noise and people continually complain about it?
* Hoon drivers who "cause distress" to neighbours or damage to property, even tyre marks on the road, will have their cars permanently confiscated on their first strike;
I'd agree if it is in relation to burnouts and excessive speeding.... Some people are actual retards behind the wheel.

But hopefully loud exhausts etc will not get targeted, as I think that is unnecessary.

Causing distress to neighbors.....so the old biddy down the street who parks 3 feet off the curb and drives 30kph in a 70 zone will get to choose if my car gets impounded ? I cringe at how loose the guidelines for this may be.

Only really effects Huggy, rest of us can't do skids...

silver_opal 17-02-2013 11:04 AM

Main reason I very rarely drive my car anymore except for going to the track. I don't 'hoon' but got labeled at work because my car left their getz at the lights when it turnt green. Was only 2k gear change, no boost, no spinning tyres, no excessive noise. Gay...

I guess having an Antilag banner will be an instant confiscation due to distress caused ... Well if Tony of Perth has its way.

These type of laws have already been deemed unconstitutional in South Australia.

>> What the Chief Justice says is wrong with the law:
* Courts must order forfeiture whenever a prosecutor asks.

* Courts have no discretion to say no, nor to vary the terms of the forfeit.

* Courts must order forfeiture even if it interferes with, or adds to, an offender's existing penalty.

* Forfeiture is often the most substantial part of the penalty.

* Prosecutors, not the courts, control how severe that punishment is because they get to pick which car is forfeited.

* An application for forfeiture amounts to the government ordering the court to do something.

* The applications force the court to act politically.

* Prosecutors can seek forfeiture retrospectively, forcing the courts to punish people months after their offence was committed.
