I am one of the two that Leigh installed a Link G3 in my Stroked STi (GC8). I am a novice when it comes to Engine Management and Tuning but I must admit the feel of the power that comes from my STi is amazing!

I have never owned a car with an aftermarket ECU so I can not comment or compare on any others but I have to admit the Link G3 is certainly value for money.

Leigh got 198.2kW @ the Wheels with 445NM Torque and running 20 PSI on the Standard Turbo. It is conservatively tuned as RMS still have the Warranty to cover on the Engine.

I am more than happy with the power output, but he suggests going up to a VF34 to get an additional (30-40kWs? - I cant remember what he told me).

So if you boys are running big turbo's than I am sure the Link G3 will leave a smile on your face.

dwrx 17-04-2007 09:59 PM

bro im running link with my vf22 and all the other shit... im over the 200kw mark on only low bar, need a boost controler and will go much more boost...but works good for me :)

Yeah 17-04-2007 11:30 PM

I never know that there is Link G3 for the gc8. Is that a PnP? How much for fitted and tuned?

jEstEr? 17-04-2007 11:43 PM

stroked GC8 sti at 20psi and not even 200kw?

Yeah 17-04-2007 11:54 PM
stroked GC8 sti at 20psi and not even 200kw?
Agree wit that, should be definitely more than 200kw.

wrx_diamond 18-04-2007 09:32 AM

yeh you would think that it would be well over the 200kw mark!
It must just be at a safe tune or something.

if you had vf34, fmic, tbe, etc etc your car would be pulling some hard power atw!

And as i said before YEAH, it was $2800 for everything!

BALISTC 18-04-2007 06:23 PM

An engine warranty??

So...if the motor pops, its covered?

nevermind 18-04-2007 07:30 PM

I had a PerFOURmance Stroker Kit fitted before the Link G3 was installed so I have a warranty on the that (hence the conservative tune).

I do not mean there is a warranty on the Engine if the G3 causes engine damage, but in saying that you are best to speak to RMS or who ever else installs Link ECU's.

All I am trying to say is I am very happy with the Link G3 and recommend people on a budget to give it a go.

Yeah 18-04-2007 08:18 PM

I think i got wat u mean Alex ;)

i have a vf34, fmic and tbe etc does that mean i should expect more than 200kw at the wheels? :D just hanging out for my order of the g3 to come in so i can get it installed! haha bring it on!

POLARBEAR666 19-04-2007 12:44 AM

did RMS say what addtional features the G3 link has over the normal old links?

Any launch control ?

wrx_diamond 19-04-2007 07:23 AM

POLARBEAR666 19-04-2007 10:02 AM

do u have launch control setup then on your car nerermind and if so how good is it?

wrx_diamond 19-04-2007 01:11 PM

i would love to know what "launch control" is and how it works!

Fabs 19-04-2007 04:31 PM

Warranty? If it breaks it means it needed an upgrade anyways. :D

wrx_diamond 20-04-2007 12:55 PM

thats a nice front bar u have fabs, what is it?

any pics?

jEstEr? 20-04-2007 01:09 PM

where'd you get a pic of my car? :icon_scra

WRXTASY 20-04-2007 02:57 PM

Nice pic but can we bloody stick to an ECU thread for once ???

Take this to another thread before this one get cluttered with crap pls ????

POLARBEAR666 20-04-2007 07:29 PM

Is there much extra resolution in the new G3... from teh spec sheet it seems to say 11x16 which is what the normal links have.

If this is correct then its not an improvement in my opinion.

WRXTASY 20-04-2007 08:09 PM

I'm reading 440 fuel and ignition zones with 4d mapping.

Thats 20x22 with interpolation at a far higher processor speed than the old PossumLink V5 of 44s for the 01/02 WRX. The old board had 200 zones or 10x20 zones if you look at your manual.

Its got all the good stuff. Probably better than an Autronic now. :)

Big call... Let the slinging match begin..

POLARBEAR666 20-04-2007 10:40 PM

What is 4D mapping is that just where the whole map is varied according to something else like coolant temp or something?

tuna 21-04-2007 03:32 AM

4d mapping allows an additional input to be used as a parameter on either fuel/ignition maps, usually you use throttle position as the 4th, as this allows you to setup wide open throttle vs cruise/mid throttle applications without having to use an over-all compensation map.

i would be supprised if link maintained 440 zones in 4D mapping for both tables, but then again- they have put a lot of work into this model from the last one!

POLARBEAR666 21-04-2007 10:21 AM

If it did maintain all its zones in 4d mapping would it make a G3 LINK tuned car vs an old LINK car Chalk and cheese?

1C3 21-04-2007 11:33 AM

i bought my link 2nd hand off here for $500. installed and tuned for $600 by RMS. it does the job.

tuna 21-04-2007 04:24 PM
If it did maintain all its zones in 4d mapping would it make a G3 LINK tuned car vs an old LINK car Chalk and cheese?
got it in one!

11secWrx 21-04-2007 05:41 PM

My good old Link does the job 2.........................for now that is

POLARBEAR666 21-04-2007 06:31 PM

HAHA it cracks me up that the second fastest rex in perth uses a LINK Electronic carby!

YAY. Certainly are reliable old things. No dead LINKS like autronics.

I might very well upgrade to G3 once Leigh has worked out all the goodies totally, eg flatshit cutout and launch control etc.

Brendan08 21-04-2007 06:40 PM

Second fastest? Coulda fucking fooled me hahahaha

POLARBEAR666 21-04-2007 07:17 PM

Well the 2 faster cars dont exist anymore (explicit and Hippo Creek stolen 10 sec). So technically brad is the fastest atm.

Go the Carby!

jEstEr? 23-04-2007 08:42 PM

imagine how much faster he'd be if he had a wolf3d

POLARBEAR666 23-04-2007 09:36 PM

Where are the low 11 second Motec cars.... I forgot there aren't any

BALISTC 23-04-2007 09:40 PM

Nah, only 10 second MoTeC cars.

jEstEr? 23-04-2007 09:40 PM

Gareths had a motec, Jamies had a motec. Next question?

11secWrx 23-04-2007 10:18 PM

Link does the job for me.
If I wanted a motec I would have bought one

BALISTC 24-04-2007 06:41 AM

Thats not true.

You own a Link, and cant justify a 3k changeover for a MoTeC, therefore, you try and convince yourself that Link is best.

mrclubspecevo4 24-04-2007 07:32 AM

isn't this thread about link ecu's. when did it turn into a my motec is bigger than your link?

arguement has been done to death.

each to their own.

BALISTC 24-04-2007 07:38 AM

Hey, the Link'ers started it :D
