Default 2010 Targa West to hit the streets of Perth

hell yeah finally some action on the streets of perth

http://www.targawest.com.au/Portals/...r%20before.pdf

QUIT Targa West is set to hit the streets of Perth in a way never seen in the events six year
history, with a Grand Finale to be held in the CBD.
The 3.23 kilometer Killarnée City of Perth Super Stage will be run as the final three stages of
the event and with the outright winners often still to be determined at this point the action for
spectators is set to be fantastic.
Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi says: “This will be a great attraction for the city, given the high
level of public interest in motorsport in this State.
“The QUIT Targa West Tarmac Rally has gone from strength to strength. This year, city visitors
will be able to witness the exciting concluding stages of the event.
“This is yet another example of the City of Perth, through its sponsorship, getting behind
events that add activity and excitement to our State Capital.”
The course, which will run on Plain Street, Riverside Drive and Point Fraser Carpark, will
showcase the City of Perth to a national audience with the city in the background and Swan
River in the foreground.
“The Killarnée City of Perth Super Stage is going to be a fantastic inclusion to QUIT Targa
West and the competitors are really looking forward to the opportunity to showcase their
vehicles and skills to the people of Perth,” QUIT Targa West Clerk of Course Ross Tapper
said.
“The last time cars competed through the streets of Perth was at the 2003 World Rally
Championship round and I can’t wait to bring motorsport back to the heart of the city.” Tapper
added.
Aside from the competitive stages the Killarnée City of Perth Super Stage will also include
special displays from local car clubs, special interest vehicles, the Shannons Super Rig, the
96fm live team and even a professional paintball competition.
“The Killarnée City of Perth Super Stage is going to be a fitting conclusion to what is set to be
one of the best years in the events history,” QUIT Targa West Event Director Bob Schrader
said.
“Through the support of the City of Perth and Killarnée Civil & Concrete Contractors we have
been able to plan a spectacular event which will provide something for every member of the
family,” Schrader continued.

Cool.

Its probably been a decision made since the redbull air race being canned.

Govt grant for Barbs + Legal skids in the streets of CBD > Planes through cones.

My work is having a big display down there for the business with the Camaro on display. Plus we are sponsoring the prologue.
So it's going to be an exciting weekend.
I can't wait.

Big turn around from knocking back the V8 supercar street race.
I know the scales are different but still an interesting change in policy.
Still I would rather they invest in motorsport facilities rather than just one event like a street race.

well we got to start somewhere and if the turnout and show is a good one then chances of doing a street circuit for the V8's can only be improved.

The V8 street race in Perth is dead & buried.

V8SC have publicly stated that they now have enough street races on their calendar (i.e Clipsal, Albert Park, Townsville, Hamilton, Gold Coast, Sydney Olympic Park). With the government now committing funds to Barbagallo, a Perth street race is off the agenda.

And so it should be. Street circuits and Cochrane's obsession with them a few years ago had the ability to ruin local motorsport. Most circuits need the big ticket events (of which V8SC is the biggest) to survive.

And don't forget things are now "dead, buried and cremated."

Looking forward to a few Targa West street stages. They probably wont decide the winner but will be good to watch.
