Default V8 Supercars to be sold

V8 sale announcement due today | Fox Sports

Quote:
V8 Supercars will announce the sale of the series to Sydney firm Archer Capital today.

The announcement involving "all key stakeholders" will be made this morning at 11.30am.
It is expected the announcement will detail the 60% share of the series purchased by Archer Capital, made up of the entire 25% currently owned by SEL as well as another 35% taken from the V8 Supercars teams.

I think this will be a big downhill step for the series, the sooner they move back to touring cars the more interesting the sport should become.

I can't see any other reason they would be interested in buying it unless they intend to siphon a buttload of cash out of the business. How is that going to be a positive???

If you take away the romance of group a, then this series shits all over it.

I would rather see 23 cars qualify within a second, than -

2 GTRS

-1 second behind, 4 Sierra's

-2 seconds behind, 3 E30 M3's

-4 seconds behind, a few commodores

-8 seconds behind 20 Corolla's etc.

With the new car of the future rules, you will be able to see numerous cars competing, even if they will all simply be shadows of the real thing.

dont get me wrong, I love watching repeats/videos etc of group a, but the series cost an absolute fortune to run, and wasnt justifyable because of the lack of competition. The series was dead before they "banned" the GTR.

If you want a modern day version, go watch GTP. Which is farking boring in itself.

And you think the current setup doesnt milk every dollar for thier pockets?

Cochrane is going to make 75 million dollars from this deal, and STILL have a job.

Good call TJ... LOL I remember watching the old touring cars, and despite the variation in the field, it was almost like watching different class battles taking place.. not so exciting.

Fair point TJ.
I used to enjoy the BTCC more, haven't really watched any in a long time though. There was some great racing there.

The mid to late 90's BTCC was some of the best tin top racing in the world.

Hell, most of the series around the world were competitive as hell, and since the rules were largely the same across the board, it led to the World Championship.

motorsport never makes money, its always been a siphon for sponsors to offload for tax

the beauty of touring cars was the implementation of improvements (like f1), so supporting the right car gave you the right result. if we wanted a 'drivers' sport, then tune into A1GP, otherwise i'm all for pushing the mechanical first and finding a driver who can hold it together second.
