Default The Motorsport Requirements Thread

There has been a few people asking of late about what they need to do motorsport,
so this thread will list the standing basic requirements for various events.

You should always check the Supplementary Regulations prior to any event to ensure
you comply with all the requirements. These events are all run
under CAMS regulations, which you can get here CAMS Online Manual of Motor Sport

A 0% blood alcohol requirement applies to all motorsport.

RAC Skidpan/Tuning Days
  • RAC Driver Training Centre is no longer operating

RallySprint
https://docs.google.com/a/rallysprin...RiZDE3Mg&pli=1

  • 1kgs of fire extinguisher tagged and in date.
  • 2x Reflective Triangles secured in car.
  • First Aid Kit.
  • All lights front and rear must work.
  • Harnessess must be in date and correctly fitted in accordance with CAMS regulations (if fitted).
  • CAMS Level 2 Speed License (this will be on offer on the night)
  • Current Australian Class C drivers license
  • Long pants, Long sleeved cotton shirt, Enclosed shoes.
  • AS 1698 or equivalent certified motorbike/race car helmet (MOTOCROSS HELMETS ARE NOT SUITABLE)
  • No loose items.
  • A co-driver.

It is suggested that you have done a number of other forms of motorsport before undertaking RallySprint.
i.e. Skidpans, tuning days, club run driver training days, as there is very little room for error on this type of course.
(Go on, ask me how I know)

Motorkhana
Documents | Motorkhana WA

  • Level 1 CAMS licence or superior
  • Minimum of a properly adjusted lap-type seat belt
  • Helmets certified to AS 1698 only in "specials" with out a windscreen.
  • No helmet and no long sleeve/pants requirements for regular cars.
  • Long shirt and pants aren't required but recommended.
  • Maximum allowable noise level emitted from vehicles competing in WA Motorkhana events will be 95db
  • Enclosed shoes.

Autocross
http://www.wacarclub.com.au/autocros...Entry_Form.pdf

  • Open to Rally, Autocross, Off Road and Street Cars.
  • 1kg of fire extinguisher complying with AS1841.
  • All vehicles must be adequately muffled to comply with the noise restrictions on 95dB.
  • CAMS Level 2S or 2SJ Licence and members of the WA Car Club.
  • Competitors who are not a member of the WA Car Club at the event will receive a one day membership.
  • Minimum age is 14 years.
  • Long pants, Long sleeved cotton shirt, Enclosed shoes.
  • Helmets certified to AS 1698.
  • In open cars goggles or visors with lens of other than glass (AS1609) must be worn.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where to get stuff...

Fire extinguishers
Can be purchased at the usual auto stores. Look up a fire equipment supplier to get and get them checked/tagged.
They should be done every 6 months.
Go Gear can supply and tag if required.

Reflective Triangles
Again, the usual auto stores. They are about $15 each.
SCA Reflective Triangle - Supercheap Auto Australia

Battery Triangles
You can purchase sticker sheets for motorsport if you like, they aren't expensive, or just make your own.
Competition Sticker Kit [SQCSK] - $10.00 : Racer Industries, Australias Leading Motorsport Parts Supplier!

Helmets
Go Gear, Revolution Racegear, Helmet House.

First Aid Kit
Most auto stores, St John Ambulance.
RPM First Aid Kit | Consumables | Revolution Racegear
Everyone should have one in the their car anyway.

Hope this helps anyone thinking of starting out.
If I have missed anything let me know, so I can update this post.

If anyone has any other questions relevant to starting out in motorsport, this thread is the place to post them.

Skidpan is not CAMS is it DC?

Also midvalve days which can be run with a standard license at times.

Classic Rally is AASA ?

Quite right TJ. RAC Skidpan/Tuning days isnt run under CAMS.
My bad.

AASA events tend to be one off's, I have tried to put details for the common series we tend to have.
And yes, Midvale events run by them usually only needs a drivers licence.

Skidpan is run by RAC - no competition licences required only a drivers licence.

With midvale it depends on the club running the event is classic rally uses AASA
Driving proficieny needs only drivers licence.

Fuel surge - the death of many dak daks, especially at Barbagallo, exiting Colb Corner (long track).

Make sure you have at least half a tank of fuel (preferably more). Better still, fit an anti-surge tank. Fuel is cheaper per litre than a re-build per litre.

No Limits are now also running a secondary event at their meets called "MiniGymi".

A mini motorkhana. It is held on the large hardstand behind the V8 pit garages at
Barbagallo at the same time as they are running the track.

All you need is helmet, long sleeves, long pants and closed in shoes.
$70 gets you plenty of runs. Plenty of room to pull skids.
First timers are encouraged. Anyone can enter.

Our own captain of skids ALEX runs these.

Nice one Dave.

I just want to emphasise that you don't require a fitted fire extinguisher for the MiniGymi, so just grab/borrow a helmet and you bring along any car you want!
