In light of recent car thefts from ppl's houses (Gareth's being the latest - condolences), what options are we as enthusiasts given to protect our hard earned pride and joys?

A full house alarm with gps tracking and remote engine shutoff would be the best option i'd assume. Whats available and who in the metro area can cater to this need?

Ocassionally at work I get a call from a monitoring company over east that has tracking devices in cars over here...

Unsure of their name but Im pretty sure you might have to look to the eastern states for an answer?

I used to tune cars with screwdrivers.
Clutch, Brake, Accelerate.

you can get GPRS tracking devices that fit under the car, hard wired to the electrical system. You can access it via mobile phone to get GPS co-ordinates.
they sell them on ebay and other online vendors

I know Holden bought out their Holden Advantage deal, in Stato's and HSV's. You can communicate back to base, and they can remotely shut off the engine if the car has been stolen etc... Quite good when my friend was telling me about it.

As for alarms with tracking. They do exist. AutoWatch is one of the leaders in car alarm's. I will talk to my mate (one of the acredited AutoWatch installers in Perth) who has contacts at AutoWatch and see what they have to offer.

Also maybe I can arrange a group buy/install. Is that OK?

Was gonna post a possible group buy thread if there was enough interest further down the tracker but thought it was a bit too soon after whats happened this morning.
