Default Nasty noise

Hey peoplz,

Got a 02 rexy, on cold mornings the car won't allow me to take off in 1st. I let it warm up a bit and when i start releasing the clutch a thudding noise starts under the front of the car (sounds like a brick is bashing me firewall) and the only way i can take off is by droppin it at 2500rpm - Even some days when it is warm to. I just can't figure it out cause apart from that it is all good, it never slips and when i'm drivin around and i have to stop and put it in 1st it is fine.

By the way it is still a stock clutch, can anyone help me, do i need a new clutch?

Comments would be greatly appreciated!

clutch shudder, from the clutch getting hot. only happens when you slowly let the clutch out? Depending on how you drive it. Happens to some people but not others. If it is clutch shudder then it shouldnt cause any damage, just let the clutch out quicker and dont rev it when taking off

maybe the clutch plate is glazed over from over heating in the past. A couple of hard launches should fix it up.

Sorry to hijack a thread but seeing as you mentioned clutch shudder, i get clutch shudder when its first taking off in the morning. From what i have heard its to do with the clutch metal not being heated and it gets better when warm. However, on the cruise, saturday night, took like an hour and a half to drive 1km cause of a traffic jam at E shed, i was constantly go and stop. It started to shudder again.

What are the likley outcomes of a clutch shudder? Replacement clutch? Thanks

Well, machining flywheel and replacing clutch/pressure plate can help, but it is something that will come back if the clutch gets hot enough again

Agreed, sounds like your getting a lot of shudder from a warped flywheel/clutch plate or your pressure plate 'fingers' are damaged from too much heat ie abuse It'll feel worse the hotter the clutch/flywheel becomes like heavy traffic.

Go very easy on it for a few weeks releasing the clutch slowly with minimal revs/ load. On some of my cars in the past this has helped 'flatten' the bulged area IF the problem is in hte clutch or flywheelt. If a pressure plate 'finger' is damaged your out of luck.

If it doesnt go away time for a new clutch/pressure/machined flywheel and thrust bearing.
