Boost cut? Stock 04 sti
Hey guys,
My bro has a 2004 sti which is stock standard. Whilst in the passeneger seat 2day and him being hard on the throttle in 2nd (~5000-6000rpm)it felt as if the car hit a boost cut/fuel cut as it hesitated violently then got up n running again into 3rd and felt fine. Apparently thats the 3rd time its done this since owning hte car for 6 months. Surely a stock car cant be hitting boost cut? or could it be something else? Also when will hte rev limiter kick in? My initial reaction was that he'd hit the rev limiter but he assures me he was between 5000-6000rpm. He revved it out to ~7600 later on and says hes hit 8000rpm once and no rev limiter ('soft' limiter?). Surely it should kick in before then? I know that is revving it way too high before some1 says something. Any avice appretiated Mike |

Is it modified? My car did something similar with an untuned turbo-back exhaust.

It definitely wouldn't hit 8000rpm????? Rev limit is about 7200rpm. Does he have any mods at all exhaust?

The car is stock standard quiet as a mouse Even looking at the exhaust its a stocker.
Performance wise it goes well. My mate has a modded (vf23 + computer/TBE, fuel pump etc etc)00 bug eye which has a little more top end so the car is definetly a stocker. I saw 7500rpm thinking wat the... Think i'll take it for a spin when he gets home to see 8000rpm with my own eyes. Hi voltage: Whats an olive? apart from the one that grows. thanx for the lightening fast replies |

Is the cruise control light flashing after this happens?
Sounds more like its hitting the rev limit if he thinks it revs to 8k

03/04 STI's have a rev limit of 7500rpm as others have mentioned. was it a really humid day? we've had a couple of those. and if it is, the ECU will retard timing, i'm not sure if it would retard boost also, wouldn't be surprised... if the knock sensor picks anything up. it sounds too much like he's hitting the rev cut though. |

How about crap petrol...?
I had the same issue you're having happen to me, but as Huy said it was when a 3" tbe was fitted and the car was not tuned.
