Default Clutch Shudder my99

I have recently noticed that the drivetrain shudders like fark when the car is cold, so much so that I have to slip the clutch excessively for the first 5 minutes or so! Anyone know why??

Ps. When I bought the car, one of the conditions was that they put a new clutch in, do you think they have just had the flywheel skimmed rather than installing a new clutch?

Thanks for your help.

Mine too. Its a bitch when cold.
Really embarrasing when you have other
people in the car. It confirms to them
that I can't drive a manual.

i had this problem in my lib aswell, i tighened up the support from the firewall to the motor which stopped the driveline moving around so much so it feels better. i figured it is an awd thing

i thought this happened when u have hairline cracks in your flywheel?
sounds like they skipped the flywheel skimming :P

Original MY99 clutches did shudder from new, its not uncommon...they went and fitted a different flywheel with a dampening plate in them from MY02 onwards to help lessen the shudder. My Tony Flood supplied and fitted clutch has no shudder from cold... as you would expect from a mechanic that knows Subaru's as well as Tony.

Lightened flywheels can make a good difference, here's one that has been to Jenny Craig's

You can make any clutch shudder if you get it hot enough. as said above dual mass and rubber dampend flywheels can reduce this, but they have the trade off of having a very soft, almost indirect feel. Lightend (or majorly machined) flywheels like above are even better, and give a small boost to acceleration and a more responsive feeling engine, when it is revviing hard
