Default 1st & 2nd helical PPG gears

Before i get flamed, i tryed the search function but no luck

Looks like i will keep the WRX now and intsead of paying $1500+ for a 2nd hand box that may just fail not long after anyway, ive decides to buy PPG gears set for around $2400 and get my uncle to to the labour.

Anyone had these?

Are they as strong as they say?

Are the helicals noisy?.

Cheers

i broke 2nd gear mate, ordered ppg gears first and 2nd only, straight cuts, in my old white rex, they are tough as, and i dont think your cars powerful enough to break em so ull be safe enough with em.

to get 1st n 2nd done ur lookign at 4 grand installed. or if u want seeign as u got the box aparts 6 grand for a complete 1-4th bit less for hellically cut gears, The straight cuts are fairly noisey so if you dont want em loud go for the hellically cuts.

I have PPG 1-2 helical in the Forester
Noisier than the standard gearset - but not as whiney as straight cuts

Will pull box apart very soon....hope i havnt done much other damage.

I drove car home in 3rd 1klm away. Sounded like bits of metal flicking up through the other gears . Might of been cheaper to get tow truck lol! Now i have prob damaged other gears and bearings aswell

Flatbed trucks are your friend
The floating 'bits' usually end up towards the crown and pinion
You would then need a donor box and the PPG gearset

Just out of interest, dog boxes are not yellow sticker material? The fact that you have put something stronger in there doesn't mean that its illegal yeah?

I would of though that as long as it has syncros then there is no probs but the coppers mite complain about the noise even though any harley davidson out there is 100 times louder
