Just wondering if anyone has had a air bubble in their radiator etc.

its sounds fuuny when i go to take off its sounds like a bottle of water being emptied.

how would one fix this?

start the car with the rad cap off?

burp the system using your hand on the top rad hose?

You should hear my car. It sounds like a deep fryer behind the dash. No matter how hard I try, I simply cant get rid of the trapped air. Its only trapped in the heater core section behind the dash, so I doesnt affect the engine cooling anymore.

Try this...

With the rad cap off, start the car and let it warm up. Keep a rag and some spare coolant ready to top the system up. Turn on the heater but keep it on the low fan setting otherwise it will take ages to warm up the engine at idle. Once the thermostat is fully open and you'll know this when the thermo fans come on. bring the engine RPM up to 2 or 3K rpm. And squeeze and pulsate the top radiator hose until you see lots of air bubbles escape. Once the air bubbles escape the coolant level should drop. Top the coolant up and replace the rad cap.

It should theoretically be done then.

ludwig, have you tried lifting the car?

cant remember but i read somewhere about lifting the front end to a certain degree where it would aid in air pocket removal.

I've done it a couple of times as you say but squeezed bottom hose and its worked ok.

Yeah, I ve lifted the front, squeeze top and bottom hoses. Reved he engine to 5K. And it works for a while but within a week, the bubbles come back. I dont have any leaks, all the hoses are new and the system has been pressure tested and all is OK.

No really a big deal though. This is a fairly common issue with RS Liberty's anyway. I dont know of any RS Lib owner that has completely gotten rid of the problem permanently

It was a general subaru problem full stop. Not dangerous or anything just makes you feel like your driving a waterfall.

i think my thermostate is gone as weel, takes a long time for the car to warm up

Leave the cap off crank your a/c fan to full with full heat. That usually gets ride of most of the air as this will get the fluid / air flow happening through the heater pipes and release the air in the system.
