Default Sequential shifter.

Just reading ramon's thread and took some interest in these shifters.
Didnt want to go way off topic so I started this thread.
got a few questions.

Does it have to go on a dogbox? As the guy on the video was still clutching.
And how hard is it on the box and why is it harder?
Where is neutral?
and basically, can i rip one on my stock 5 Speed til (or if) it blows?

Before you go any further..

Are you aware for the reasons why its called a Dog box?

The way it shifts from one gear to the next is rather different to a synchromesh box. Essentially you are "Flat shifting" without the use of a clutch between shifts.

I remember the days when Ramon had ordered the dog box and decided to Flat shift the std 5 speed. I think it lasted a week or two.

Here's an image of a dogchange set

And heres an image of a standard syncro gear

A sequential shifter would mash those synchros in an instant

It says on the site that it works on both synchromesh and dog engagement boxes. He was also using the clutch in the video to shift. By the looks of it the only thing that changes is how the selector rods/forks are moved inside the gearbox, which means as long as you use the clutch appropriately, this system would work fine on a normal synchromesh box.

would also defeat the purpose of having a sequential shifter, as any improvment you gain by having the faster shift is list by still having to use the clutch

Yes that is a very good point, especially considering with a much faster shift, people might feel inclined to make their clutch usage faster. Looking at the selector fork movie, it seems that thing would so no mercy on your synchros if you did mis-time the clutch.

$2k could easily be spent on more useful things, but if you have a spare 100,000 euros, you could buy a fully sequential 6 speed straight cut WRC gearbox
