Default Battery D/C = Trip to subaru ??

Guys,

Just got off the phone to subaru, they said if i disconnect the battery for any reason - say to install gauges or a fuel pump, that the alarm will not allow me to start the car again and ill have to call them up to "do a procedure" to get a fed starts out of it and then take it into subaru so they can reset the pin.

BTW i have an 07 WRX.

How do we get around this when installing electrial components?

Cheers
Chris

Not true.

If you keep the battery disconnected for a LONG period of time i.e. few weeks, a month, the Brant keypad will need the master code entered before it'll operate normally, otherwise you'll be locked out and you wont be able to start the car.

A few hours to install a gauge or a fuel pump, won't be an issue.

I think its about time we did something about this master code business, Subaru feeds this bullshit to a lot of owners and makes them tow the car out for no particular reason at all, just to make a quick buck. Its a real scandal IMHO.

A particular dealership used to give the code out over the phone, once all ownership details were confirmed as entered into Subaru's computer....it worked for me, and saved me a tow and a $50 fee!

I've had my Fuel Pump done, and there has been no issue with that.

Someone can clear this up as i'm not 100% sure, but the Brandt has a battery backup .. For some it lasts a few hours, other days ..

You should be able to disconnect it for 10 mins without any drama's though .. Otherwise Subaru would be dealing with these all day every day (Maybe they do!?)

Yeah i reckon, its ridiculous. We paid for the car, i think we should be entitled to have the code. Unless of course it's the same for all keypads which would mean we could use it on any subaru with the keypad.

Are they all brant keypads? mine says subaru on it. I'm assuming they are made by brant, branded "Subaru"

Probably not a must REMOVE .. But at least disconnect ..

You don't really want live wires which may cause a spark near petrol fumes ..

If your paranoid .. Is there a fuse for the Fuel Pump you can rip out?

MY03 + Brant alarms have a backup battery that will hold your code for 3 months. Previous to that, the code was held for days or less depending on the condition of your car battery.
<MY03 can be upgraded to the 3 month system.

Haha unbelievable.

I said to them - "so if i disconnect the battery to install something, eg. gauges, I will have to come into Subaru to get it reset?" To which the foreign sounding woman on the end of the phone answered - "yes thats correct"

I'm no mechanic. However i am a mechanical engineer. And i dont think it would take me 3 months to install some gauges.
That said, I would probably get a workshop to do it for peace of mind anyway, and if it took them 3 months i'd be mighty pissed. Not to mention 3 months worth of labour costs.

Thanks guys appreciate the feedback!
