The AVO boys call it wastegate chatter. AVO have a fix for it - and I'm told porting the wastegate in a certain part of the dump/housing fixes it.

Have a read of the following:

Nothing to do with the intake as far as I know - like I said though it may be a different issue. But from what you havbe described mine does the same thing. VF Series turbos are renouned for it. Still holds boost fine though and doesn't appear to have any negative affects on performance.

If you want/need more info call Steve from AVO in Melbourne. He ran me through the process over the phone once.
Same, same (when i ran the VF35) - only a problem when flooring it in 4th/5th/6th from low rpm. Problem disappeared with turbo upgrade.

The ole' cha, cha, cha sound.

Edit: I seem to recall it being more pronouced after I fitted the silicon inlet pipe.

Yup. Not a big deal really. Common problem with VF turbo's.

tode, if its anything like what i was experiencing it wasnt surge, it was actually the exhaust manifold pressure pushing open the wastegate.

Yeah Tode its loud mate.

Not sure about the tighter spring - or maybe you could port it like AVO have suggested.

I understand you have already done this.... but chances are they have "ported" something different. There was a thread/DIY on rexnet about it some time ago.

If you give them a call I'm confident he will let you know what to do.
