Default 2 pot to 4 pot brake upgrade

Hi all,

I know there area few people on here who have upgraded the GC8 2 pot front brakes (98 rex or before) to 4 pot brakes off the newer rexes (99/00).

I am planning on this in the immediate future.

Question:

Is it a direct swap (note that calipers, pads and discs are all being changed)?
or do I need additional parts? (ie. new brake lines, caliper mods or spacer etc)

Thanks

Note 100% sure bout / with the early model gc8, but with my foz the claipers are a direct bolt on replacement.
however when you do this mod i suggest you jsut buy some calipers and get some slotted DBA4000 rotors and endless pads... and saying as you will be bleeding your brake system you may aswell get some stainless steel brake hoses..

Calipers are bolt on. Just need larger 295mm rotor and your pretty much done.

Hell, even the brembo front calipers are bolt on.

Yes, direct swap on the front, only thing you may consider is making sure the old smaller backing plate doesn't scrape on the inside of the new bigger disc.

The backing plate has a bit of a dished edge, you may need to bend it out a bit.

You could change the backing plate for a 01/02 job but it's hardly worth it.

Putting the matching 2 spots on the rear is a different story tho'.

If you're upgrading for track work etc give thought to putting on braided (gen Sti if you can) lines all round and a Cusco master cylinder brace...very worthy upgrades.

Will the stock front brake lines hook up to the new 4 pots ok? I've heard there's a small bracket attached to the brake line on the 4 pot setup (MY99+)...I may be wrong

My 02 4 pots fitted straight on, the standard lines (97 model) fitted, but I replaced with Sti SS braid jobs.
