Default AFM Swap

Hey Guys
Just a quick question about swapping the stock MY99 AFM to the highly recommended Nissan (300ZX ???) AFM. How easy is it??? Is it a case of just a straight swap or is there a fair bit of work involved?

Cheers
Steve

It's not plug and play. The AFM itself is also a differen't diameter.
You will need an aftermarket ECU before you can even think about the change, as the voltage resolution is different.

Some good information here

If you have a Link ECU then you can get rid of the AFM all together.

The Link's load variable comes from the MAP sensor not the AFM like the stock ECU and Power FC.

MAP is Manifold Air Pressure, AFM is Air Flow Meter.

Link can be tuned (not sure which version...gurus might help) using the MAP sensor - mainfold pressure sensor. AFM measures the ammount of air coming in, then the ecu supplies enough fuel/timing to keep everything happy. MAP sensor which your car already has, can do the same job (measuring air) and its far more reliable then the AFM. MAP sensors can be used if u install Link/Autronic/Motec - Z32 AFM would be useful if you went for PowerFC - dont worry im a noob too, i just waste 1/2 of my work time sitting here
