Default Boost ;D

Hey guys i own a close to stock 99WRX still using a top mount etc, just curious what sorta boost would i be able to raise it to safely without putting and engine components in danger and going *POP* !

Runs around 1 bar ( 14 psi ) stock

Also 1 other qustion, when i put my foot into it, it boost fine, nice and solid, but as it starts to get towards the end of its rev range the boost begins to drop off, from bout 14 to 10 i think ... is this just due to stock turbo being small, is this normal or a leak some where ? If it was a boost leak it would be a consistant leek i assume though ?

thanks guys

Dan

Don't play with boost without the tune to go with it. This isn't SAU or SilviaWA!

I wouldn't raise the boost at all without an aftermarket ECU and Tune.

Then you should be able to run about 18psi safely.

Have a look here for more information on ECU's.

I had a MY99 & some idiot had put an extra olive in the turbo line, couldn't work out why it was dieing at about 5,000rpm, got Steve at MMS to put it on the computer & found it was boosting to 19psi, took it out & it was fine so I wouldn't go over 16psi.

Boost regulator was playing up on my MY98 and she was boosting up to 21psi....Yeh you guessed right before the engine kept shutting it self down. Put on a manual controller after that which solved it.

I reckon you wouldnt want to go over 16 without longer term issues cropping up...
