Fit the Z32 and get it tuned, you will be amazed at how good the Power FC is.

Maybe he was referring to running out of resolution on the AFM. You can max out the voltage on the AFM when there is more airflow than it can measure. Which is not hard to do on a stock GC8 AFM. But a Z32 has better resolution and can measure accurately much more airflow than the gc8 AFM.

Power FC is a great ECU and is definitely the best bang for your buck ECU for a gc8 WRX.

interesting, never really heard of anyone doing that. makes sense and was actually a limiting factor on my Mazda.

The Z32 AFM does not have more resolution and it will not measure the airflow more accurately, this is entirely down to the ADC used in the power FC or other ECU. Theoretically speaking, the lower the maximum measurable airflow, the higher the accuracy of the reading.

You could also increase the maximum measurable airflow on the GC8 sensor by placing it in a bigger pipe, though it would have to be re-scaled.

I obviously didn't really choose my words too well! Basically driving along, and the car died, and it wasn't the air flow meter. Had to get the computer sent off for repairs. Don't really know what happened to it, just, well, died. Might get the Z32 in and get a decent tune on it. Cheaper and hopefully reliable. Cheers guys.

the major benefit of the Z32 & PowerFC combo is the reliability the Z32 has over the MY99/00 AFM

The Z32 AFM has a higher voltage range, which gives it the ability to "flow" more air then a stock GC8 AFM. Its the reason many cars upgrade to it.

In the Nissan world most of the SR or RB AFM's go to 3-4v the 32 one goes to 5v.

This has a vast difference on the tuning scope of the ECU.

I know that matty, but people should understand the real benefits behind switching their AFM, or any sensor for that matter.

The stock gc8 flow meter goes to 5V too (the idea of a sensor that doesn't is stupid), so the reason a Z32 meter flows more air is because it has a bigger ID. Assuming the same ADC is being used, this will result in a decreased resolution.

In saying that, this is somewhat of a mute point anyway as the power FC can get good enough readings from either to correctly control the fueling and ignition to the motor.
